Read the full interview below:
Mary: Hello Betty. So very nice to meet you.
Let me tell you MIML are VERY VERY excited that you are our #djoftheweek.
Myself and my adorable partner George Galindo have been extremely keen to speak to you.
Ok, so my questions are first of all, followed by George’s:-
M: YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY VERY EXPERIENCED IN ALL YOU HAVE DONE OVER THE YEARS.
FOR MYSELF AND FANS WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF YOUR PAST, CAN YOU KINDLY GIVE US THE BACKGROUND TO YOUR SUCCESS?
B: I was dating a guy by the name of Lee Rieger (RIP), the main DJ at Flows Palace. During our time together, he showed me the ropes of putting two records together. He took the night off and I gave it a go and fell in love with it. I went on to have a successful 2 year long residency at Flows.
M: AMAZING TO LEARN THIS!
I AM CURIOUS, WHERE DID THE “STAGE NAME” BETTY AUS COME FROM?
B: The name was given to me by the management of The Beat, a gentleman by the name of Patch. The reason for the name was, after a cake mix called ‘Betty Sydney Cake’, which was big in Sydney at the time. When I relocated, Patch made jokes about DJ Betty mixes well, so it just stuck.
M: THAT’S SO COOL!
YOU HAVE PROMOTED MELISSA FRASER, AN UP AND COMING TALENTED ARTIST FROM YOUR COUNTRY. WHERE DID YOU MEET HER & TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HER?
B: I met Melissa 20 years ago Melissa is the sister of Matthew Fraser,. Matthew is my brother from another mother, which makes Melissa family. Matthew was instrument in bringing myself and Melissa together for, The Extended Late Night Dance Singles, Ep.
The executive producers of the SJW Record label loved the idea of me working with Melissa on a record constructed entirely of edits. I’m going to be doing further projects for SJW Records in the future.
M: WOW, WELL WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT YOUR FUTURE PLANS; CAN YOU GIVE US A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION AS TO WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM YOU?
B: I will be doing more works with the SJW Records Label, focusing on local, home grown talent.
Having spent a lot of time behind the editing suite, I can assure you, there’s some fantastic sounds to come.
George: Hello Betty & Mary
It’s is a pleasure virtually sitting with you both today. As Mary has expressed, we at MIML are happily excited to know more of you Betty Aus. Thank you for joining us this special week to celebrate Melissa Fraser & you.
G: WE HERE AT MIML, WE ARE BIG FANS OF THE DISCO DIVAS ERA(S) AS YOU ARE.
WHOM INFLUENCED YOU BACK THEN WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP, FROM EVERY DAY PEOPLE TO DISCO DIVAS FOR YOUR UNIQUE SEXY DISCO TOUCH THAT YOU HAVE?
B: Lee Reiger, he showed Sydney how it was done before anyone else. He was also getting imported music light years ahead of the industry and really knew what he was doing. This man could turn the heat up on a dancefloor.
I HAVE HAD AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE READING YOUR BIOGRAPHY ON The Real Music Divas MIML Official Website.
PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAYS WHEN YOU RAN DANCE MUSIC RECORD STORE DURING THE DAY AND PERFORMED AT GIGS DURING THE NIGHT?
B: I was pretty much ordering, purchasing and chasing the sound that set dance floors alight.
Being able to sit many months ahead of most DJ’s and being able to source my sound very easily. Remember, we were the only record store selling this music.
Working as a DJ and also in a record store really complImented each other.
G: YOU HAVE BEEN A STUNNING STAPLE IN THIS INDUSTRY FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
COULD YOU PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT YOUR OWN EVOLUTION FROM YOUR BEGINNING OF YOUR CAREER TO NOW?
B: Having almost 4 decades in the industry, I’ve learnt what it takes to make a record shine.
In the early days, my evolution from just putting records together to finally getting a gig took around 6months (under the watchful eye of Lee Reiger).
At first I couldn’t believe what we were doing, but night after night of blowing up the dancefloor helped me navigate the in’s & out’s of working 9hrs sets.
G: THANK YOU.
NOWADAYS, THERE ARE YOUNG DJ’S THAT DUEL EACH OTHER TO CREATE GREAT MASH UPS OF THEIR SOUNDS.
WHOM WOULD YOU LIKE TO DUEL WITH, THAT WILL COMPLIMENT YOUR SEXY TOUGH DISCO SOUND?
B: Whilst I can appreciate a good ‘Co-Lab’, it’s just not my thing.
Amazing. Well, this is the conclusion of this exclusive interview and we would like to express again all our gratitude for Miss Melissa Fraser, and to you for joining us this week here at The Real Music Divas: Music Is My Life
Much love & xoxoxo, Gg
